Ashley Ziarnick's School Work

  I finished reading the book, Treasure Island. My teacher wanted me to write about what I thought was the theme. I think the theme was that some pirates are not  people you want to mess with. I think this is the theme because throughout the book there are some pirates who are greedy and kill others. Let me explain further.

   In the beginning of the book we get introduced to “The Captain” who isn’t exactly a good person nor a bad person. In the next few chapters we learn that he was mixed up with pirates and was once a pirate himself. In the 3rd chapter “The Captain” dies. In chapters 2-3 we get introduced to two pirates, Black Dog and The Blind Beggar. They were both pirates who knew The Captain. When we get to know the Blind Beggar he is not a nice person because he is harsh and would hit his fellow mates, but when he does this the pirates leave him to die. Pirates are not good people in the first place because they steal and do other horrible things. Later when Jim the main character goes to find some treasure with other people. A new pirate gets introduced here but at first we don’t know he is a pirate.His name is Long John Silver and he wants to help Jim find the treasure. Jim agrees for him to come along and Long John Silver brings other people ( these are his pirate friends ) to join him to find the treasure. The captain of the ship and the doctor are skeptical of  Long John Silver and his mates. In chapter 10 we learn that Long John Silver and his crew are scheming a mutiny against the rest of the crew. In the next chapter when they find the island and sail to the island. And then, the pirates start killing people to get to the treasure on this island. Throughout the time on the island the pirates play many tricks and hold people hostage. Now Jim and four other people make it out alive with the treasure and most of the pirates except Long John Silver end up dead because there was a battle near the end of the book between the pirates and the sailors. 

   This goes to show pirates are not good people who would kill, steal and play tricks just for a little gold. Now I don’t know if this is what exactly the author had intended the theme of this story to be, however this is the theme I got from the story.

English- My teacher reviewed the story of Robin Hood that we have read so far.

Math- My teacher talked about the fibonacci sequence.

History- My teacher taught me about Thomas Aquinas.

Science- My teacher taught me about connecting the power system to the brain in the second part of the robotics project.

English- My teacher reviewed chapters 5-7 of the book, Robin Hood, he also talked about novellas. I was assigned to read chapters 8-10 of the book, Robin Hood.

Math- My teacher talked about creating a budget spreadsheet.

History- My teacher taught me about the Magna Carta this was an important constitutional document.

Science- My teacher talked about RBB-Bot: connecting the motors to the brain of a robot.

English- My teacher reviewed chapters 3-4 of, Robin Hood, and also taught me about short stories. I was assigned to read chapters 5-6 of the book, Robin Hood.

Math- My teacher taught me how to do calculations on a spreadsheet.

Science- My teacher introduced us to the next section of the robotics project.

History- My teacher taught me about Pope Francis

English- My teacher reviewed chapters 1-2 of the book, Robin Hood, and also taught me about novels. I was assigned to read chapters 3-4 of the book, Robin Hood.

Math- My teacher talked about spread sheets.

History- My teacher taught me about the Investiture Controversy, this was a fight be tween Pope Gregory VII and Henry IV

Science- My teacher showed us how to do the last part of the robotics project.

English- My teacher introduced me to a new book called, Robin Hood. I was assigned to read chapters 1-2 of Robin Hood.

Math- My teacher reviewed units of time and temperatures, adding subtracting multiplying and dividing compound numbers, and rates.

History- My teacher reviewed all 8 crusades.

Science- This was the 4th par of the robotics project.

English- My teacher reviewed the whole book, A Knight of the White Cross by G.A. Henty.

Math- Today was pretty simple my teacher talked about rates.

History- My teacher taught me about the the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th crusade.

Science- My teacher did the 3rd part of the robotics project.

English- My teacher reviewed chapters 19-21 of the book, A Knight of the White Cross. I was assigned to read chapters 22-23 of the book, A Knight of the White Cross.

Math- My teacher taught me how to add compound numbers, for example: add 23 cu. yd. 14 cu. ft. 1216 cu. in.; 41 cu. yd. 6 cu. ft. 642.132 cu.
in.; 9 cu. yd. 25.065 cu. ft.; cu. yd.

History- My teacher taught me about the 2nd Crusade.

Science- My teacher showed us how to build the first part of the robot.

English- My teacher reviewed chapters 13-15 of the book, A Knight of the White Cross. I was assigned to read chapters 16-18 of the book, A Knight of the White Cross.

Math- Today my teacher taught me how to convert different units of time and how to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit and Fahrenheit to Celsius.

History- My teacher taught me about the First Crusade, this was a war against the Christians and the Muslims.

Science- My teacher reviewed robot sensors and other parts to a robot.

English- My teacher reviewed chapter 10-12 of the book, A Knight of the White Cross. I was assigned to read chapter 13-15 of the book, A Knight of the White Cross.
