On Saturday, December 16th we went to Dahlonega, Georgia were a gold rush happened. We went to the Consolidated Gold Mine where we went into a mine and learned about the gold mine, working conditions in the gold mine, and the pay for working in the gold mine. We even got to see some of the tools they used! After the tour was over we got to pan for gold! I was able to get three tiny pieces of gold! It was fun going through the tour and panning for gold but my favorite part was panning for gems. We bought a box full of sand, minerals, and gems. When we scooped out the sand we put it in a tray with holes in it to get ride of stand and you would put this in the water and the minerals and gems would be left in the tray for us to keep. Once we were done doing this we went to a jeweler who worked at The Consolidated Gold Mine and he identified which minerals and gems we have. We ended up having an emerald a ruby and two sapphires which he said he could cut and polish to be turned into jewelry! his trip was very fun and I would love to go back there again.
